Name and Description

HIV Malta is a sub-group within the Malta LGBTIQ Rights Movement (MGRM).  In line with clause 2.3 of MGRM’s statute, HIV Malta must always have at its centre the interests of LGBTIQ persons in Malta and Gozo, and shall work as part of the wider campaign championing human rights against discrimination based on sex, gender, race, colour, ethnicity or national origin, religion or belief, disability, age, and HIV status.

Aims and Objectives

HIV Malta will follow the Aims and Objectives of the organisation, focusing on:

  • Following international standards and guidelines on HIV prevention, treatment and policy work which seek to improve the quality of life of people living with or affected by HIV;

  • Engaging on an educational campaign against HIV-related stigma, by providing factual information about HIV, emphasising the ‘Undetectable = Untransmittable’ principle and promoting the use of HIV-preventative strategies, and its association with the LGBTIQ+ Community;

  • Working towards ensuring that people living with HIV are leading a life that is dignified and in full respect of their fundamental human rights, receiving the expected standard of modern medical care and treatment, and experience no discrimination on their place of work, and when accessing services including financial and insurance services;

  • Disseminating information about HIV, testing, prevention, and care that is scientifically accurate but written in language that is appropriate;

  • Collaborate with the Rainbow Support Services (RSS) in order to expand the service’s current goals to integrate individuals affected by HIV within its strategy;

  • Working with, and within, the community and other individuals/NGOs active within the area, whose aims and objectives are compatible with those of MGRM; and

  • Working with key stakeholders within the medical sector and policymakers towards the improvement of Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) and the introduction and/or improvement of existing preventative treatment and strategies.
